Writing Wrongs is a digital museum inspired by over 300 letters written by Japanese Canadians in the 1940s to protest the Canadian government’s forced sale of their property. Through this project, visitors can learn about the history of the Japanese Canadian community, from Japanese emigration to Canada, to the building of communities, the forced removal to internment sites, and the ongoing legacy of standing up for justice. These letters of protest, housed in the archives, offer a powerful testimony about the meaning of citizenship, justice, and equal rights. This project was developed with the support of the Digital Museums Canada investment program and is presented in both English and French.
As the designer for this project, my responsibilities included creating wireframes and prototypes using Adobe XD to showcase the website’s layout and functionality. I also designed the user interface for each page using Sketch and followed accessibility guidelines from W3C. Additionally, I edited photos using Adobe Photoshop and created motion designs using Adobe After Effects to enhance the website’s user experience. This project was fully funded by Digital Museums of Canada, and I was a member of the NGX Interactive team.
